September 18, 2017
Hello Preschool Families,
I hope that everyone is getting out and enjoying our continued nice weather!!! It is always nice to take a moment and thank God for the world around us!!!
Monday September 18, 2017 is picture day for grades K-7 only. The preschool classes will have their pictures taken at a later date.
This week we will begin to add components to our circle time activities. We will start our classroom helpers and add library to our specials this week. We will also start to talk about numbers and letters and do our first journal entry. On Monday morning we will get together with our 5th grade buddies for the first time. Each month we will meet our buddies and do an activity with them. Look for our hand activity that we will do on Monday outside the 5th grade classrooms when you come to Back to School night for parents on Tuesday, September 19, 2017.
Books we have read in the last two weeks:
The Kissing Hand , My Schools a Zoo, Froggy Goes to School, There Was an Old Lady who Swallowed Some Books, Don't Eat the Teacher, Pete the Cat School Shoes, Strawberry Shortcake Goes to School.
David Goes to School, My Teacher Sleeps at School, There Was an Old Lady who Swallowed Some Books (back by popular demand!), I'm Not Ready, I'm Your Bus, Time For School Mouse.
Snack Calendar: Your child's snack day is also their show and tell day. They may bring something from home to share with the class. They may bring anything they like, just as long as it can fit in their backpack. We have 20 students in our classroom. We do not have any classroom food allergies. We do have one student that has a special diet, however that student will be bringing their own snack everyday. Please feel free to bring in favorite snack, however please keep the snack on the healthy side. Some suggestions are pretzels, cheese and crackers, fruit, veggies and dip, yogurt, muffins, etc. Keep the sugary snacks for birthday celebrations. We do have a refrigerator in our classroom for snack storage. Your child will bring home the classroom snack bag the day before their scheduled snack day. Our current snack bag is a blue Lakeshore Learning bag.
Scholastic Book Orders: The book orders were due on Sunday September 17, 2017 by midnight. I will be placing the order on Monday the 18th. The books will come to the school. I will sort them and then send them home with your child. I will always assume the books are gifts and double wrap them and send them home.
School Supplies: I will be sending individual emails to those families that I still need to send in paperwork. I will also send an email to remind you to send in your child's paint shirt and change of clothes. If you have not brought in all of your school supplies yet, please do so as soon as possible. We do need a paint shirt and change of clothes for each student. We do have art this week and we wear our paint shirts to art, so get those in as soon as possible. The change of clothes is not only for a "bathroom" accident. There are times that we have needed a change of clothes for a student because of one of our activities or a spill.
Required Paperwork: Please send in all paperwork that was either mailed to you in August or given to you at orientation. We need to have the Child Information Sheet on Monday September 11, 2017. This form is a Michigan state licensing form. If we do not have this form on Monday, your child cannot stay in our program until we receive this form. The green health form is due 30 days from September 7, 2017. Field trip permission slip is due October 22, 2017. All the other forms as due as soon as possible so that we may complete your child's preschool file.
Blake's Cider Mill field trip: The price for the field trip is $9.75/person. A parent or family member must accompany your child to the field trip. Any adult going on the field trip must have taken the Protecting God's Children Workshop and filled out a background check information sheet and driver information form. We will go rain or shine!!! Please let us know if your child will not be going on the field trip or will not be coming back to school for the afternoon session (if they are an all day student). This information will help us with our staffing for that afternoon.
Family Page: Please turn in your family page project sometime this week. I would like to have them all by Thursday so that I can laminate them and put them in a binder for the students to look at and share. If you need a new Family Page sheet, just let me know.
Hat Project: I did explain the hat project at our orientation. There will be more information regarding this project next week.
Star Student Poster: Our first Star Student poster went home last week! Look for their poster on our Star Board soon. It is a mystery as to who it will be??? If your child is picked to be our first star student, we will send home the poster and instructions. We like to have the poster completed in about a week and returned to school. Once your child brings in the poster, we will share with the class and then post the poster outside our classroom on our Star board.
Class Times: Please remember that our class begins at 8:00 am everyday. If you should be later than 8:00 am, please enter the school through the main doors of the school through the school office. Our morning session ends at 11:00 am and students are dismissed at the court yard doors. Our afternoon session ends at 3:00 pm and students are dismissed at the court yard doors. If your child is enrolled in our after school program, Kids Club, they will be dropped off at the Kids Club room before we dismiss the other students at the courtyard doors. If your are running late or would like your child to go to Kids Club, please call the school office and let them know. They will get the information to Ms. Clarke and myself.
Student Drop Off: Student Drop off in the morning: Ms. Clarke will be waiting at the courtyard doors every morning for all our students. During this first full week of school you are invited to walk you child down to the classroom. I would like to have all of our students walking down to the classroom either by themselves, with a sibling or friend, or with Ms. Clarke, by Monday September 18, 2017. Part of the curriculum in our early childhood department is to foster independence in all of our students.
Afternoon Students: All afternoon students need a lunch and a small blanket or beach towel for rest time. Please send in the blanket/towel as soon as possible. We do not have the ability to warm lunches in our classroom. Please send in lunches that are ready to eat. If you would like to send in a drink for lunch, that is great. We will give any student water to go with their lunch if they do not have a drink or water bottle.
Clothing: Please remember to dress your child in clothing that they can handle in the bathroom. Girls: If wearing a skirt or dress, please put shorts underneath. Boys: No difficult pants closures or belts. All students: Good sturdy shoes all the time. No crocs, clogs, sandals or slides. A good pair of athletic shoes are best.
